Quarter 3's Victories and Insomnia

Brave New World Animoto

The animoto here on the left, created by yours truly, illustrates the world in which Brave New World takes place; a world where humans are massed produced, put in classes, denied individuality, drown out their problems with drugs, and put up a facade of superficial happiness. The society in this world is treated like a complex machinery, where any upset or interruptions to the norm disrupts the balance and jeopardizes a uniform and stable society. But in order to achieve this, sacrifices such as individuality, passion, and meaningful relationships, have to be made.

Ethics in Brave New World

The people in the realm of Brave New World are being hypnotic state, and im not just talking about hypnopaedic conditioning. Huxley created a world in which the flaws of modern life are exaggerated and the importance of stability is prioritized over anything else, and is maintained at any cost. Huxley depicts the ignorance that people suffer from in the modern world by emphasizing the a lack of individuality, self, and realization of a greater being/greater power. When Lenina and Henry go on their date, Huxley makes sure to elaborate on their tunnel vision-esque view of their night; While they are focused on what they wish to do next, and only focused on the now, they fail to acnowledge at that moment - and any for that matter, the sky and stars and moon. It is the absence of questiong their existence, that highlight the ignorance present through the people of Brave New World.

In addition to their ignorance, the people living in this society are being conditioned. These conditionings range from social status to the obsession of dealing with issues by drowning them out using soma to superficial happiness. The overall use of conditioning to micromanage every aspect of everyone in every society, shows resemblance to aspects of a dictatorship. The only reason why those oppressed, don't argue against the oppression, is because they are made to believe that this is fine, AKA being brainwashed, hypnotized. For instance, during the soma raid, the workers were so obsessed with their rations of soma, they were willing to bring about violence just to recieve it. if the stable society youv'e built is so dependent on a drug, is it really stable at all? And if absence of said suppressor, brings about such violence, is it really ethically just?

Oscar Wilde Argument Timed Write

We were told to read a quote by Oscar Wilde, regarding his own views and beliefs on civil disobedience. We were then asked to either support, challenge, or qualify his beliefs. As someone who agreed with Wilde's beliefs, I decided to support his statement, and this was the result.

Quarter 3 Reflection

Quarter three was a very good quarter for me. The main reason being that there were no precis to do. I found myself, regardless of an overall good quarter, struggling to find motivation to complete my assignments on time; evidently this ePortfolio shows no improvement on that front in this quarter thus far. However, in third quarter I became more comfortable with my consistency in terms of my schoolwork, with the exception of the above of course. I believe that Ms. Ahearn's was more organized in her planning and execution of prersentations and instruction, for instrance quickly preparing a lesson for the SLO based on the topic it dealt with. I look forward to improving my motivation and curing my senioritis, because damn, it's at a high stage.
